Four applicants for the development of an electronic passenger registration system

An electronic questionnaire for the epidemiological surveillance of passengers entering Latvia will have to be created within 21 days. For this purpose, the Ministry of Transport will soon select the best of the four companies that have applied.

This means that – both foreigners and Latvian citizens – upon arrival from abroad will have to fill in the questionnaire electronically for the needs of the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (SPKC) and also the State Border Guard. This process is currently taking place on paper with a pen.

Ferries and buses will not initially be included in the planned system. The system will be used by airlines first.

Its essence – a website will be created, where before entering Latvia, each passenger will have to provide contact information, flight number, seat number, identity document number and other types of information. And then each entrant will be given a unique QR code.

Before leaving the airport, the passenger will have to scan the QR code at the automatic gate, which he will have received by mobile phone, e-mail or printed out. If there is no QR code, there will be no further. You will then need to communicate with the airport representatives to help with this check-in.

SPKC emphasizes that – the introduction of electronic questionnaires for migrants will improve the quality of the submitted data. They will be available faster and better analyzed.
