The United States will prosecute four officers for their involvement in the death of Breonna Taylor, a black woman who was shot dead in a raid on her home in 2020. That reports BBC News Thursday.
The foursome have been arrested and will later be prosecuted for their involvement in the fatal shooting in March 2020.
The 26-year-old hospital worker was shot dead during a nighttime police raid on her home in the American city of Louisville.
Taylor was asleep when officers entered her home unannounced. The officers issued a search warrant following a drug investigation. Taylor’s friend fired one shot, thinking the officers were burglars. Plainclothes officers responded with a total of 32 shots. Taylor was hit by several bullets.
Three officers were previously fired for their role in Taylor’s death. One of them was charged and prosecuted for shooting a window and sliding door without knowing who was behind it. In doing so, he would have recklessly endanger human lives.
The deaths of Taylor and other black Americans as a result of police brutality sparked large protests in 2020 under the name Black Lives Matter. Massive protests against racism were also taken in many other countries, including the Netherlands.
