Ulrich Schückhaus, head of the Mönchengladbach Economic Development Agency (WFMG), believes that nobody has to go to Berlin, Hamburg or Munich to start a company. The Lower Rhine offers everything a business start-up needs: “Here you are not a number, here you are cared for, individually and personally advised.”
This year it will take place between November 15th and 21st and under the motto “Establishing means diversity” is bigger than ever. More than 80 events, some digital, some hybrid, and some face-to-face, are offered to interested parties. Starting from the original catchment area, the series of events extends over Krefeld, Mönchengladbach and the Rhine district of Neuss to the northern Lower Rhine and has found a new partner in the Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences in Kamp-Lintfort and Kleve.

“I am particularly pleased that so many parties work together, support each other and thus make this diverse program possible in the first place,” says patron Jürgen Steinmetz, General Manager of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHK) Mittlerer Niederrhein. Schückhaus mentions some events as examples that would show that there is no place for church tower thinking on the Lower Rhine. The programmatic highlight is the first merger of various regional founding round tables in the Viersen “rock class”. During an elevator ride, the perfect “elevator pitch” is trained in Krefeld – that is, the presentation of the founding idea within the duration of an elevator ride. An offer makes it possible to set up the first app in just two hours, without any technical knowledge. Stadtsparkasse Mönchengladbach and Sparkasse Krefeld will also do their part with advisory services outside of their business hours and offices to relieve interested parties of financial inhibitions when setting up a business.

Business start-ups are an important economic factor, confirms the managing director of the Viersen district’s economic development agency, Thomas Jablonski: “In the starter center for the Viersen district, around 150 intensive and over 700 brief consultations are carried out every year. From this, around 1000 companies have been founded in the Viersen district since 2008. Several thousand jobs have been created and around ten million euros have been invested. “

During the foundation week there is not only an abundance of information events, the so-called “soft” factors are also taken into account, such as the “Do your thing!” Event at the Textile Academy in Mönchengladbach on Tuesday, November 16 at 7.30 pm Clock. At the invitation of the SME networker Stefan Wagemanns, the new founders and successful founders will present their success story. Among them is one of the most prominent founders from Mönchengladbach: Rolf Schrömgens, founder of the hotel search engine Trivago, then discusses with Wagemanns and Manan Voskanian (Stylique).

“The varied program of the Founding Week 2021, coupled with the diverse start-up scene, makes a significant and special contribution to city marketing for Mönchengladbach,” says Peter Schlipköter, head of the municipal marketing company MGMG. But also in Krefeld, Viersen, the Rhein-Kreis Neuss as well as Kleve and Kamp-Lintfort this foundation week is a calling card that appeals to those interested in founding a company. “The region offers a great climate for start-ups,” says Maximilian Reisch from the Gladbach digitization offensive nextMG. “On the one hand, the region benefits immensely from the uniform appearance and the jointly formulated offers – and on the other hand, we are considered a best practice example as a region right up to the Federal Ministry of Economics,” says Schückhaus.
