Since the establishment of the Ath-Thaariq Ecological Boarding School in 2008, which FAO recognizes as a farmers’ field school, Nissa has woven sustainable agricultural education with Islamic values.

Due to land constraints, she limits enrollment to just 30 students to ensure each participant can cultivate and consume from the garden they nurture. “Because the students have to eat from the garden they cultivate, this is one of our main lessons,” shared Nissa with the FAO, reflecting on her lifelong commitment to self-sustenance through agriculture.

Sita further remarked, “The participatory approach implemented by Nissa Wargadipura has successfully transformed initiatives initially cultivated within families into a tool for community empowerment.” IKA initially provided a grant to Nissa in 2011 to support her early ecological farming endeavors and has since renewed its commitment to her initiatives through recent grants aimed at developing the Green Islam module.
