Apple TV has released the official trailer for Foundation, an adaptation of Isaac Asimov’s sprawling trilogy, which promises to be very epic.
Showrunner David S. Goyer’s (Batman Begins) project adapts Isaac Asimov’s iconic trilogy about the collapse of the galaxy and a gang of exiles’ struggle to preserve humanity.
Official series description:
When revolutionary Dr Hari Seldon (Jared Harris) predicts the Empire’s imminent downfall, he ventures with a group of devotees to the far reaches of the galaxy to create the Foundation with the goal of rebuilding and preserving the future of the civilization. Furious at Hari’s claims, the ruling Cleons (led by Lee Pace), a long line of clone emperors, fear their unmatched reign will weaken as they are forced to consider the potential reality of losing forever. their powerful heritage.
Previously, Goyer spoke of the challenge of adapting that spans thousands of years and spans many locations and characters: “There are three tricky aspects of The Foundation that I think have stumbled all the other adaptations. The first is that the story is supposed to span 1,000 years with all of these massive jumps in time, it’s hard to say. It is certainly difficult to sum it up in a two or three hour movie. The second aspect is that the books are kind of an anthology. The first book contains a few short stories with the main character, Salvor Hardin, then we go forward a hundred years and we find another character. The third point is that they are not particularly emotional; they are books on ideas, on concepts. So a lot of the action happens offscreen. In the books, the Empire, which is present in 10,000 worlds, literally disappears from the screen, as it does between chapters. Obviously, that wasn’t going to work for a TV series.
So, without saying too much, I found a way for some characters to extend their lifespan. About six characters will continue from season to season, century to century. In this way, it becomes half an anthology, half a continuous story ”.
The first season consists of 10 episodes and will premiere worldwide on Friday, September 24. The series will begin with the airing of the first two episodes and then release a new episode each week.
