The Perpignan police services are launching an appeal for witnesses after the discovery this Wednesday, August 7, 2024 early in the evening of a seriously injured man on the banks of the Basse. The victim died but has not been identified.
Who was this man? Was he homeless or not? What happened to him? The Perpignan police services currently have very little information to try to answer these questions.
This Wednesday, around 8:30 p.m., the alarm was raised after a man was spotted lying in a pool of blood on the banks of the Basse, 7 meters below the bridge located at the junction of Boulevard des Pyrénées and Boulevard Lazare-Escarguel. A large rescue operation was set up to access the victim, who was urgently evacuated to Perpignan hospital where he succumbed to his injuries this Thursday. According to initial evidence, the two main leads are that he jumped deliberately in a desperate gesture or that he fell accidentally. However, for the time being, the use of surveillance videos has not yielded anything, has not allowed his journey in the area to be followed and no one has come forward to recover the body of the unfortunate man who has still not been identified. Of European type, blue eyes, very bald, he would be aged 60 to 65, would have been wearing a grey jersey and black trousers with large orange stripes on the side and black sportswear-type trainers.
The man is believed to be between 60 and 65 years old. DR
Does anyone know him? Or did they see him on Wednesday evening? Investigators are looking for people who could provide information, or who may have seen him arrive on the bridge or who may have witnessed the events. Knowing that at 10:15 p.m. that same evening and at the same location, another 55-year-old man, drunk, allegedly tried to throw himself off the bridge. Held back in extremis by a group of youths, he was subdued by the police while the firefighters arrived and transported him to Perpignan hospital.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the police station on 04 68 35 71 09.
