CALTAGIRONE (CATANIA). The body lying on the ground inside the condominium in Via Mascagni, cross of the populous via Madonna della Via, of Caltagirone and of the 45 year old Caterina Di Stefano.
On the spot the men of the Scientific Police of Catania the magistrate on duty, dr. Alberto Santisi and the coroner. According to the neighbors’ stories, in recent months, there have been numerous violent quarrels within the couple. The man, currently questioned by the men of the Caltagirone State Police, is in custody and allegedly stated that the woman would have fallen down the stairs after an illness. The suspect, however, has scratches on his face and hands that he says he got while trying to revive the woman. This thesis does not convince the investigators.
However, in these last few minutes, her husband would have admitted that between them, in the middle of those stairs, there was a struggle, which resulted in the woman falling from the last steps of the landing.
The investigators are concentrating on these first statements made spontaneously to the investigators.
From the ongoing cadaveric inspection, further clues as to the cause of death may come.
The victim’s family members stated that they had repeatedly asked the police for his arrest and removal from home. Their quarrels were continuous and he, according to reports from relatives, had already demonstrated his violence on other occasions.
“I knew it would end like this,” the victim’s mother screams in an unsuccessful attempt to reach the body of her dead daughter, the woman is certain that it was he who killed her daughter. “Bastard took my daughter from me, how many times they fought, how many times they came here, now she’s dead, she must have hit her in the head, bastard, whoever gives my daughter back to me.”
