DORDRECHT – Sometimes you’re lucky as a museum: Last year the two portraits of the Schniewind-Greeff couple, painted in New York between 1909 and 1911 by the artist and art critic Jan Veth, were offered at a small auction American.
Veth’s American portraits had been sought after for a long time. They emerged just on the eve of the major retrospective exhibition on Jan Veth, which opens on 18 February 2023 at the Dordrechts Museum. The fact that Dordrechts Museum was able to acquire these paintings is unique. Of all the portraits Veth made during his visits to America, only these two have been found. The pieces have been restored and will soon be displayed in The eye of Jan Veth exhibition. Painter and critic around 1900. Read more about the Dordrecht artist’s exhibition in the coming weeks.
