Cows emit methane

In order to reduce the amount of methane released into the atmosphere during flatulence, animals must go on a special diet.
Researchers have found a way out for cows to safely release gas, which could save the planet. This was reported on March 18 in the newspaper The Guardian.
During flatulence, cows release methane, which threatens the atmosphere with global warming. In order to reduce its emissions, animals must consume seaweed. These plants will significantly reduce the amount of gas produced.
The UC Davis community came to these conclusions after a five-month study of cattle fed small amounts of Asparagopsis taxiformis algae. The diet has cut methane emissions by 82%. At the same time, the taste of milk and meat remained unchanged.
Methane is produced in the stomachs of cows during the digestion of fiber-rich foods. Although this gas is not as persistent as carbon dioxide, it retains heat. Thus, it is the most common on Earth and provokes greenhouse effects that lead to climate change.
Recall 17% of greenhouse gases in the European Union are emitted by animals, which is several times higher than the amount of CO2 emitted by cars. More than 500 million tons of carbon dioxide are produced annually on the farms.
