Brittany, France, prepares to celebrate the European Days of Crafts (JEMA), offering a unique opportunity to discover the talents of local artisans in Fougères, Saint-Aubin-du-Cormier, and Bazouges-la-Pérouse.This event provides an intimate look into the world of craftsmanship, showcasing skills passed down through generations and innovative techniques that bring customary arts into the modern era.
Fougères: A Festivity of Diverse Art Forms
La Chapelle de la Verrerie in Fougères will host a diverse group of artisans, each bringing a unique viewpoint to their craft.
- Lénora Le berre, an art ceramist, creates unique pieces characterized by elegant lines and intricate shapes, designed for personalized spaces.
- Le Studio Ler (Lydia Belgithar) specializes in lava enameling, crafting art for homes, furniture, and coverings using lava from the Auvergne region.
- Caroline Wagenaar (LT & W) merges ironwork and ceramics, focusing on a palette of whites, grays, and varying textures. Her collaborative workshop produces objects and furniture with an architectural approach to design.
- David Leroy-Terquem (LT&W) shares his passion for metal and ceramics, creating furniture, railings, and steel portals. He also works as a “Socleur,” crafting supports for masterpieces in major French museums.
- Véronique van Brabant practices textile art, utilizing high-end fabric remnants from her previous decorating work to create paintings, hangings, and textile pottery.
- uLiRossbach (atelier Koad Bras), a master cabinetmaker, designs and creates contemporary, natural solid wood pieces, each being a unique creation.
- The Tori workshop will present its new range of Refrain furniture, drawing inspiration from the Korean alphabet to create wooden writing-like designs. François Jaennes,who
describes itself as a furniture sculptor,
favors wood but is adept at using all materials.
Spotlighting Emerging Talents in Fougères
The event also highlights three emerging creators, including two from Fougères, providing a platform for their innovative work:
- La Mosaïste Mona crafts figurative and abstract creations by cutting various materials such as marble, porcelain stoneware, and glass paste.
- Romain Scancar, a stained glass artist at France Vitrail International, works on large-scale creation and restoration projects. In his free time, he uses leftover glass to create traditional and unexpected stained glass works.
- nolwenn Le glatin, a 24-year-old artist, specializes in engraving, with a particular interest in insects, expressed through the “black manner” technique.

Saint-Aubin-du-Cormier: Celebrating Living Heritage
In Saint-Aubin-du-Cormier, the European Days of Crafts will take place at salle des Halles, in partnership with the City, the association Small Cities of Character, and the National Institute of Crafts of Art.
The Jema are intended to make the creation processes accessible, the tools and the materials used by craftsmen, and to introduce the living heritage. It is indeed an invitation to meet women and talented men.

- Anne-Michelle Delaunay: Jewelry in polymer paste and natural materials.
- solenn & Rachel: Renovation of furniture, decoration, and furniture rental.
- alice Ramage: Cabinetmaker (manufacture and restoration of furniture).
- Rachel Clouet: Leather goods.
- Cécile Guéniot: Upholstery.
- Lucie Messenger: Bookbinding.
- Audrey Sokol: Painter on furniture and wall decoration.
- Christine Prigent: Creator/designer at the cross stitch.
- Laurence Goupil: Stained glass, decoration, jewelry.
- Anaïs Pioux: Origami jewelry and polymer paste.
- Michaëla Kergaravat: Ceramist.
- Paméla luâpre houée: Ceramist (jewelry,decoration,clay dishes).

The Saint-Aubin-du-Cormier event will be held Saturday, April 5, and Sunday, april 6, from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Hall of the Halles. Admission is free.
Bazouges-la-Pérouse: A Town Embracing craftsmanship
Bazouges-la-Pérouse is hosting its third year of the European Days of Crafts as part of a broader municipal project to promote local know-how. The event is coordinated by cabinetmaker Yann Jallu, who also serves as a municipal councilor.
Several locations will be open, with some accessible by reservation and others offering free access. On April 5 and 6, the town will highlight its commitment to the arts.
The multipurpose room of the EHPAD VILLECARTIER will host a dozen artisans representing embroidery, ceramics, leather goods, forge, saddlery, weaving, stained glass, and soap making.
The association The Tool in Hand will also be present, offering children aged nine and older an introduction to manual professions. Access is free, and the artisans will be present throughout the weekend starting at 10 a.m.
The Chauvière-Coquin workshops exhibition gallery, located at Place du Monument, will be open from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Other locations will require reservations.
The Jallu Cabinetics workshop will offer guided tours in small groups (limited to fifteen people) on Saturday at 10:30 a.m.,1:30 p.m., and 4 p.m., and on Sunday at 10:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m., and 3:30 p.m.
La compagnie Machtians, which designs and manufactures its own set designs, will offer the same visiting times. These meetings are free but require prior registration with the Tourist Office.
Bazouges-la-Pérouse Seeks “City and Craft” Recognition
Beyond the event, the municipality is pursuing the “City and Craft” label, reflecting its commitment to preserving and promoting local craftsmanship. This initiative accompanies an ongoing rehabilitation project of a town building, intended to house a future craft hub.
