President Fouad Siniora mourned the Lebanese historian Hassan Hallaq, and considered that “Lebanon and the Arab and Islamic worlds have lost with the death of an intellectual and academic stature, and a great and brilliant historical memory that cannot be compensated because of what this great man carried and embodied in terms of scientific values and great academic and historical achievements, as well as firm and solid national positions.” “.
He said, “Our late historian was not satisfied with guarding the history of beloved Beirut, but rather delved into the history of this Arab region, especially in the Ottoman era, and was able to prove and reveal many aspects of Lebanon’s national, Arab, independent and renaissance history.”
He added, “If some Lebanese historians were famous for their western orientations, our late historian represented the trend that went far and with confidence towards highlighting and affirming the other side of the history of this region, with regard to establishing and strengthening the history of the Arab, Islamic and national presence in Lebanon.”
He said: “No researcher, and anyone interested in science and in unveiling the irrefutable historical facts about Lebanon’s national history, can be aware of these facts without seeing the abundant, valuable and influential products, ideas and research of Dr. Hassan Hallaq.”
And he concluded: “May God have mercy on our great historian, asking God Almighty to bestow upon him an abundance of His forgiveness and mercy, and to dwell him in the spaciousness of his gardens. All condolences to his family, his family, his lovers, those who appreciate him, and all the Lebanese, and we ask God for patience and solace for all those who know him and his lovers.”
