nLasse Johansson, a name synonymous with success in Swedish hockey, is set to take on a new challenge as the sportchef at AIK. With a career spanning multiple countries and roles, Johansson brings a wealth of experience to the table. His journey began in Skellefteå, were he played a pivotal role in the team’s six consecutive SM finals and their gold medal victories in 2013 and 2014.
After his stint in Skellefteå, Johansson moved to Switzerland, where he served as an assistant coach for the ZSC Lions for two seasons. In 2018, he transitioned to the KHL, taking on an advisory role with SKA Sankt Petersburg, followed by a similar position with the Russian national team leadership until 2022.Johansson’s most recent roles include assistant coaching positions at Rögle and Zug. Now, he’s ready to lead AIK as their new sports manager. “It felt good when I had meetings with ‘Myran’ (Stefan Gustavsson), (Anders) Gozzi, and the board. We have had some meetings, and this has grown. Inspirational and fun,” Johansson shared with Sportbladet.
When asked about his goals for AIK, Johansson was clear: “We haven’t really been able to break it down. The speedy thing is to reach SHL; it is clearly a goal in my thoughts. But also building an entire association, with youth and junior, I think is also important.”
Johansson will officially take over the role on march 1,replacing Niklas “The Pie” Persson, whose contract expires on the same date.Persson expressed mixed emotions about his departure: “It’s sad in that I enjoy AIK damn well.We have been doing good things for a year and a half. We are in a much better place now than when I came hear. Disappointment is the wrong word, I don’t know that. It is still mutual. But damn boring to leave people you have come to know and should not work with in the future,” he told Express.
