Fossil to Discontinue Smartwatch Production, Shifts Focus to Traditional Watches and Jewelry

Fossil, a brand that has launched several smart watches with Wear OS and other hybrid models (with hands and Bluetooth connection) announced that it will stop creating smartwatches.

In statements to the website The VergeJeff Boyer, executive vice president and director of operations at Fossil, justified the decision with the fact that the smartwatch market has “evolved significantly in recent years”.

In this way, Fossil assumes that there are other brands with better proposals than its own and that it will not be willing to keep up with the innovations that the market has been receiving in recent times.

Fossil is redirecting its resources to strengthen key business segments with strong growth opportunities: traditional watches, jewelry and leather goods [como carteiras]both our own brands and those licensed», explains Jeff Boyer.

This decision will not, however, affect the release of updates for existing Wear OS models, as Fossol’s executive vice president and director of operations promises that updates will continue to be released in the “coming years”.

Fossil’s last smartwatch was the Gen 6, released in 2021; in 2022, the brand also teamed up with Razer to create a special version of this model.
