Turn 10 Studios, the developer behind the highly anticipated game Forza Motorsport, has taken steps to make the game accessible to blind and low-vision players. Working with accessibility consultant Brandon Cole and other visually impaired gamers, Turn 10 has developed Blind Driving Assists to provide supplemental audio cues that help players navigate the racing sim. These cues include audible information on track position, orientation, and progress during turns, as well as details on deceleration and shifting gears. Blind and low-vision players can preview the audio cues in the accessibility menu and customize them with a screen narrator.
In addition to Blind Driving Assists, the game offers One Touch Driving, which allows players to customize braking, steering, and throttle assists to minimize the number of simultaneous inputs needed. This feature is especially helpful for those who have mobility and stamina disabilities and may find it difficult to hold down buttons or press multiple buttons at once.
Forza Motorsport will also offer standard accessibility features such as full controller remapping, colorblindness filters, and customizable subtitles. The game is set to release on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox Cloud Gaming, and PC via the Microsoft Store and Steam. By prioritizing accessibility, Turn 10 Studios has set a new standard for inclusive gaming experiences.
