Forza Italia challenges the majority: “Deferral of prison for mothers of children under one year”

Forza Italia challenges the majority on prisons. The Azzurri have in fact presented an amendment to the law on the issue of mothers in prison Security Bill which this week arrives in the Chamber. The amendment, compared to the text that arrives in the hemicycle, restores the mandatory deferral of punishment for mothers of newborn children (aged between zero and 12 months), so that no child has to spend the first months behind bars.

The amendment introduces a new element that, it is explained, has the objective of removing impunity for repeat offenders, who resort to pregnancy to avoid prison: the magistrate will in fact have to make an assessment. If he considers that deferring the sentence to the mother constitutes “serious harm to the psycho-physical integrity of the minor”, then “the execution of the sentence must take place in an institution with attenuated custody for detained mothers”. In practice, if one is in prison for an “accident”, mothers and children remain outside, if on the contrary the child is released and lives in a condition of illegality and poverty worse than prison, then they go to an institution for detained mothers.

Meanwhile, still on the subject of the Security bill, the secretary of Forza Italia, Antonio Tajanihe answered a question about the crackdown, proposed by the League, to take away citizenship from foreigners who commit crimes, after having obtained it. “If we had had the idea of ​​revoking citizenship from those who commit crimes,” Tajani explained, “we would have presented a bill.”

Furthermore, if during the procedure to acquire citizenship there are serious crimes contested, we ask to suspend the term that allows to arrive at the release – explained the Northern League MP –. Clearly if there is an acquittal the suspension is cancelled while if instead it arrives at a conviction it is clear that the effect is to preclude citizenship”.
