The 7th edition of the “Forum Centralien Supélec”, organized in Casablanca by the Centraliens and Supélec of Morocco and articulated around the theme “What urban planning for a sustainable city?” », resulted in the production of a White Paper gathering the various recommendations formulated within the framework of this forum.
This important document thus contains and synthesizes the different critical and constructive views of the Moroccan city by the members of the Centraliens-Supélec community throughout the 4 workshops which cemented the work of the Forum, indicates a press release from the association of Centraliens and Supélec of Morocco.
Each workshop hosted presentations orchestrated by expert speakers, leading to the production of innovative and pragmatic recommendations, with the help of expert speakers and rapporteurs, specifies the same source.
“We all live in a context of change, penalized by the scarcity of resources (water, agricultural land, land, etc.). Modern and sustainable urban planning invites us to question certain outdated visions previously adopted. Hence the usefulness of formulating the most salient and constructive recommendations which have all been brought together in the White Paper. These recommendations are the condition for allowing citizens to benefit from access to smart, integrated and sustainable cities,” said the president of the Association des Centraliens et Supélec du Maroc, Jalal Charaf, quoted in the press release.
These recommendations were articulated around the strategy of the city of tomorrow, the process and management of urban planning, governance and the legal framework, and finally the mechanism for listening to and mobilizing civil society with the development of a dedicated data.
“The recommendations collected invite us more than ever to draw inspiration from our history and the concept of medinas, while turning to successful Moroccan experiences and international benchmarks. In the same vein, operationalization appears to be the sinews of war today to set up modern and smart cities”, notes the Association.
The recommendations also invite reflection on the establishment of a national body in charge of identifying strategic orientations, while revisiting the legal framework and facilitating the collaboration of national stakeholders.
And to add that another important feedback concerns the need to set up a council with the municipalities and which would be composed of scientists, sociologists and town planners.
The recommendations also call for the promotion of public-private partnership, innovation in the management of shared land, sustainable finance and the implementation of a carbon tax, as well as the development of effective territorial intelligence and urban indicators that are sustainable and reliable.
The book of recommendations, which will be available in PDF format on the association’s website, will be widely distributed to interested parties such as: supervisory ministry, urban agencies, town halls, order of architects.
The international network consolidates Centraliens and Supélec has nearly 55,000 active members in France and around the world.
