Forty houses on fire in Polish village, nine injured | Abroad

The fire broke out around 6:20 p.m. and spread quickly as the buildings in Nowa Biala are close together. Some are also made of wood. More than 100 fire departments and about 400 firefighters rushed to fight the blaze.

Nine people were injured and several hospitalized. They mainly have minor burns. According to a spokesperson for the fire service, one person has a broken spine from a fall from the roof.

A help point has been set up in the local school. Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki promised that families would not be left without a roof over their heads. The army is deployed for help.
