Fortuna Sittard won an Eredivisie match for the first time in almost two months on Friday. The Limburgers wiped the floor with Heracles Almelo (4-1), with the home crowd being entertained, especially in the first half.
Fortuna was lord and master against Heracles from the kick-off. After just six minutes, Rodrigo Guth headed the 1-0 against the ropes from a corner kick. The Brazilian thus gave himself a nice gift, because he celebrated his 23rd birthday on Friday.
Milan Robberechts then doubled the lead for the team of coach Danny Buijs. The young Belgian took advantage of defensive shooting and finished with a clever foot movement. After that things went fast in Sittard.
Alen Halilovic scored the 3-0 from the rebound and a few minutes later Kaj Sierhuis headed the 4-0 onto the scoreboard. The poor Heracles could not turn the tide in the second half. Mario Engels’ 4-1 just before the final whistle was just for statistics.
For example, Fortuna Sittard won an Eredivisie match for the first time since September 16 (3-1 against FC Volendam). This was followed by defeats against Go Ahead Eagles, AZ, FC Twente, PSV and PEC Zwolle, with a 0-0 draw against FC Utrecht as a poor intermediate course.
Because the Limburgers had started the season excellently, the victory is enough for a place in the left row. The question is whether that will still be the case on Sunday evening, because Ajax, among others, can pass Fortuna again this weekend. Heracles Almelo of coach John Lammers is now eleventh.
