“Fortuna Silver Mines faces illegal blockade over worker profit sharing in Oaxaca”

The reason for the blockade was the disagreement of the workers about their participation in the profits.

Fortuna Silver Mines Inc. reported that a small group of union employees, representing 15% of the workforce, have illegally blocked access to the San José mine in Oaxaca. As a result, operations at the mine have been temporarily halted.

The illegal blockade arose after this group of workers disagreed with the estimated amount that the company will distribute to the workforce as part of the worker profit sharing.

Profit sharing is a transparent calculation and payable in accordance with Mexican law. The blockers demand that the company increase profit sharing beyond what is required by law.

The company is committed to engaging with union leaders in an open and constructive manner to get employees back to work and operations to resume as soon as possible.

For more than a decade, the San José Mine has been the largest employer in the Central Valleys region, providing direct employment to more than 1,200 people.
