Fortuna earned with three points from the field

Fortuna Sittard deservedly left the field on Sunday with three points. The team of coach Danny Buijs won 1-0 at home against AZ.

Fortuna quickly showed that it was not going to give anything to the team from Alkmaar, currently number three in the Eredivisie. Fortuna was the strongest team and regularly managed to get into scoring position, but they failed to score. The biggest chance came just before half time. Fortuna was awarded a penalty by the video referee (VAR). However, Alen Halilovic hit the post and that is why the score was still 0-0 at halftime.

After the break, it was once again Fortuna who had control on the field for a long time. Only at the end did AZ come into the game and they were able to put more and more pressure. Ten minutes before the end it finally happened. Fortunees Rodrigo Guth made optimal use of a corner kick and headed the ball hard past the AZ goalkeeper. That lead was then defended tooth and nail, so that the people of Sittard can hopefully put a series of tough matches behind them with a nice victory.

Fortuna is now in tenth place with the same number of points. The next opponent is Willem II. The kick-off is in Tilburg on Sunday afternoon at 12.15 pm.
