Fortuna Düsseldorf: Things are no longer going well for the front runner… | sport

Only the avoidable 0:3 against HSV in their own arena after 21 games without defeat in the 2nd league. Then shortly afterwards, during the international break, Fortuna Düsseldorf lost 1-0 in the test against twelfth-placed Dutch side Almelo. And now this: water damage!

Before the leader’s game on Saturday against bottom team Jahn Regensburg (1 p.m./Sky), the press conference with Daniel Thioune (50) was scheduled, as usual, for Thursday, 3:30 p.m., in the media room in the press department area. The evening before, press spokesman Tino Ploster (67) reported: “The PK will take place in the old PK room next to the mixed zone.”

Are you kidding me? Are you serious when you say that!

Almost 45 minutes later there was another change. The PK was to be held in the new media room with the illustrious name “The Cave”, which was built specifically for the European Championships in June. Because the old media room was no longer in a reasonable condition – above all, not all the names of the current sponsors could be seen on the wall…

Fortuna wanted to avoid switching to the modern, international media space – because for this she has to pay real rent to D.live, the stadium marketing company belonging to the city…

Coach Daniel Thioune (50) accepted everything with a smile. And he wants to quickly get back on track after the international break: “The break was good for us, we took a breather. We’re looking forward to the journey – even if it’s a little further away.”

It’s 560 kilometers to Regensburg to the last one. Where Thioune doesn’t want to cause any surprises, even if he says: “It’s always nice to write that the league leader embarrassed himself at the last one. It would be a shame if this no longer existed. You can win against any team in the second division on good days, but you can also lose on bad days. It sharpens the senses – we’re not flying through this league!”

But on the return flight to Düsseldorf later Saturday, there should be three points in Fortuna’s discussion. Thioune: “We are capable of winning there!”
