Icelander comes from BK Häcken
Right-back Valgeir Lunddal Friðriksson is now joining Fortuna. The 22-year-old Icelandic international comes from Swedish first division club BK Häcken and will wear the number 12 on his F95 jersey. The transfer terms have been kept confidential.
The 1.91 meter tall Friðriksson moved from Valur Reykjavík to BK Häcken in January 2021. He played 89 competitive games for the Gothenburg club, scoring four goals and providing twelve assists. He has played 10 senior international matches for Iceland so far.
Klaus Allofs, Board Member for Sports & Communication: “After BK Häcken’s elimination from the Europa Conference League, we still had the opportunity to complete this transfer under reasonable conditions. We are convinced that Valgeir is a good fit for us both personally and athletically and that he gives the coach important new options.”
Christian Weber, Sports Director: “With Valgeir, we are signing a very versatile player who interprets the full-back position offensively. In addition to his footballing skills, he also brings with him a rare physical profile that we have not had in the squad before.”
Valgeir Lunddal Friðriksson: “Isak Johannesson told me a lot of good things about Fortuna and the discussions with those in charge also convinced me. I am really looking forward to the next step in my career and believe that I am in exactly the right place in Düsseldorf.”
