Fortuna and Sjors Ultee still think of each other: ‘Proud that I was able to help’

Ultee left Fortuna in the autumn of 2022, when he was fired after just three rounds due to disappointing results. He was also replaced at Cambuur, by Henk de Jong, a turn of events that left Ultee with a much bitter feeling. “It was a lot more restless there, with what happened there. I also see a contrast with Fortuna and Oss: the family atmosphere, also with the office staff. And how the staff interacts with each other. The ‘together’ feeling, that is similar between Sittard and Oss.” At the same time, the expectations are very different. At Fortuna, the threat of relegation lurked year in, year out. “When I arrived, the club had only been in the Eredivisie for one year. We have been able to keep the club in the Eredivisie every year. We got help from corona once, then we had the best year, and after that the year with Zian Flemming.”
