UPDATE: Fortnite developer Epic Games has started disabling servers for the 19.20 update.
If you are not already in a game, you will not be able to join a game until the end of maintenance.
“We are starting to disable matchmaking in preparation for the v19.20 update, with server downtime starting soon. We’ll let you all know when Downtime is over!”
ORIGINAL: Fortnite fans are excited to download the next major update, as version 19.20 comes to Battle Royale and Save the World. The new Fortnite update has a February 1 release date for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PC, Android, and Switch. Needless to say, this will come with a long period of server downtime, which means no Fortnite for a few hours. Luckily, Epic Games announced the server downtime schedule, so you can plan on doing other things while Fortnite is down.

According to Epic Games on Twitter, Fortnite will begin going offline at 8:30 GMT on the morning of February 1.
It starts with matchmaking disabling at 8:30 a.m., which means you won’t be able to start a new game after that time.
Anyone who is already playing a game of Battle Royale, Save the World or Creative will be kicked from the servers when the game goes completely offline at 09:00 GMT UK time.
“v19.20 is coming secretly (until we just announced it),” read a tweet from Epic Games.
“The update is scheduled for February 1. Downtime will begin at 4:00 a.m. ET, with matchmaking turned off 30 minutes prior.”
Although there is no official end time for server maintenance, downtime typically lasts around two hours.
This means you can return to Fortnite around 11am GMT at the latest. Express Online will keep this article updated with any new developments.

As you can probably tell from the tweet, Epic is teasing the release of something secret.
This is almost certainly a reference to Covert Canyon, which is a supposed new location added in previous updates.
The new location will be joined by a weapon returning from the vault, possibly the Revolver.
According to Fortnite insider Shiina, the new update will also bring new Star Wars or Spider-Man items, as Epic teases the release of two beloved collaboration skins.
