Fort Worth ISD to require mask use, defies Governor Abbott’s order – Telemundo Dallas (39)

TEXAS – The Fort Worth Independent School District (FWISD) will require the use of masks when students return to campus beginning August 16.

The announcement was made by Superintendent Kent Scribner during the school council meeting that occurred Tuesday night.

“The masks will be mandatory for the interior of school campuses and buses,” Scribner said of the new measure since the classes will be 100 percent face-to-face.

He cited a letter he received from more than 100 pediatricians requesting mandatory use of masks to keep children safe.

In the same way, several parents asked during the meeting that the use of the mask be required or that a virtual learning option be offered.

The district added through a statement that it will continue to monitor the impact of this protocol and will revise the requirement when necessary.

FWISD follows in the footsteps of other large districts in the state that will implement or have already implemented the same measure. These districts include Dallas y Houston.

The measures also follow Governor Abbott’s executive order, GA-38, which prohibits school districts and local governments require the use of masks.

“He doesn’t want to go. They don’t feel safe, they don’t feel good going knowing that they won’t be safe at school, ”adds Rosales.
