Fort Liezele: Circoloco Party Concept with Keinemusik – Cream of the Crop Line-up

Fort Liezele turned red on Saturday. Thanks to Circoloco, the infamous party concept from Ibiza that is now also gaining a foothold in, yes, Puurs in Flemish Brabant. With the blissful German collective Keinemusik as the bouncer, the line-up offered the proverbial cream of the crop.

From CORE at the end of May to Voodoo Village at the beginning of September: electronic music rules the festival summer. Extrema Outdoor continues to grow, Sunrise Festival explodes, Werchter is still on a drip after the passage of Fred Again, Tomorrowland has once again been voted the best festival in the world – no doubt not only by the readers of ‘DJ Mag’. And will soon return to Sao Paulo in Brazil, to settle on Alpe d’Huez via a detour in the Mexican cult location Tulum. WECANDANCE has also completed two weekends. It was hot at Pukkelpop, but nowhere as hot as in and around the Dance Hall or Boiler Room. And from those who have already been to Paradise City or Voodoo Village, you only hear how fantastic it was there. Niche boutique festivals (what’s in a name) that are so much more than that. But certainly not small anymore.

A niche market such as the latter two should also be tapped by Circoloco, but how do you explain that a party concept originated in the late 1990s in Ibiza and is also held at locations in New York City, Los Angeles, Miami or Tokyo, 6,000 people to God’s sake Puurs pulls? Twice as many as last year, when the event took place for the first time. Agreed, the idyllic Fort Liezele offers a very nice location. And double agreement, the line-up was one to lick your thumbs and fingers. Heard in the backstage, from someone who was busy there and today is going on vacation to Ibiza to settle down tonight in DC10, the nightclub where Circoloco is held every week. “I would much rather have had a holiday here. Tonight the music can never be this good.”

You have to hand it to Labyrinth Productions and Ugur Akkus, the man behind Extrema Outdoor, too: it’s great that Keinemusik, the German trio that takes the currently very popular melodic house to an extra dimension, made its only Belgian tour at Circoloco this year. At Tomorrowland &ME was still good for a majestic passage, but to admire the Berliner together with his fellow citizens Adam Port and Rampa, you had to be in Puurs on Saturday. The collective’s set last year during the iconic sunrise at Burning Man, in the Nevada desert, is already legendary within the scene. Euphoric and melancholic feel-good music, with many Eastern and African influences. Keinemusik played a dance for three hours.

At 3 pm they already started – after all, they also had to make it to 11 pm in Sweden. With after Keinemusik also the Chilean Swiss DJ Luciano, veteran in his profession who released many La Rocca classics such as Arp Impressions by Jan Driver, the broom was continued early on Saturday in Fort Liezele. Instant fireworks. For example, Keinemusik went increasingly crescendo, with in the last half hour, among others, the heavenly The Rapture Pt. III (see video above) which &ME released together with Black Coffee. Their mix of Baby Again by Fred Again with Skrillex and Four Tet. Even Ella, Ella L’a by France Gall in a progressive jacket. To close with their version of (It Goes Like) Nanana by Peggy Gou, the absolute summer record. Then just turn it around for another 15 minutes. That private jet to Stockholm could wait a while.

And then the deep house/techno of the German Âme, the dreamy sound of the Turkish Carlita and the disco-house of the Amsterdam duo Anotr had to follow. On the tones of Relax My Eyes, the sing-along hit of the latter, a way was made towards the exit. Pure by night must rarely have been so beautiful.
