Formula E “Race at Home Challenge”: Penultimate stop in New York

(Motorsport-Total.com) – The virtual version of the Brooklyn Street Circuit in New York will be the stage for the sixth race of the Formula E “Race at Home Challenge” on Saturday. This will be followed by the electric racing series in the e-sports season the final – a double header with two races on June 6th – is on the agenda.

In the “Race at Home Challenge” of Formula E there are still two weekends left Zoom

In the overall ranking of the “Race at Home Challenge”, which was carried out in cooperation with Motorsport Games and UNICEF, Pascal Wehrlein (Mahindra) is eight points ahead of Stoffel Vandoorne (Mercedes) in the lead.

As a result of the Daniel Abt scandal, which was actually planned as a joke, Audi only competes with one vehicle. “The ‘Race at Home Challenge’ of Formula E moves on to New York, where Lucas die Grassi will drive our Audi e-ton FE06,” announced Audi. The car with the starting number 66, last driven by Daniel Abt – or e-sports professional Lorenz Hörzing – “stays in the team’s virtual box this time,” they say.

Mercedes driver Nyck de Vries explains the street circuit with 14 bends in Brooklyn, New York, which in this variant was also part of the real Formula E calendar of the past two seasons.

Curves 1, 2 and 3

It starts with a combination of curves. “The whole first section is quite technical and is driven as a combination,” says de Vries about the tight left turn and the two subsequent 90-degree right turns.

“What happens in turn 1 has a direct effect on turns 2 and 3. That is why it is important to get the first turn right. Then you can master the two right turns with a good rhythm.”

Curves 4 and 5

After a straight straight line, there is another 90-degree right (curve 4). Immediately afterwards there is a fast right, which joins the long back straight as curve 5. “In turn 4 it is important to get an optimal exit. Turn 5 is not quite full. A little lupping should be enough,” says de Vries.

Curves 6 and 7

The long back straight leads to Turn 6 – a left that on paper is one of the best overtaking opportunities on the track, but: “Turn 6 is pretty tricky because you drive out of Turn 5 on the left side of the road, but then to brake changes over to the right. Overtaking on the outside is not possible at this point, “said de Vries. Turn 7 is a directly following close right.

Curves 8, 9 and 10

Turn 8 is a right bend that goes at full throttle without any problems. After a 90 degree left (curve 9) it goes into the hairpin curve (curve 10). “Turn 9 is very bumpy, which makes it very challenging. It is difficult to position the car correctly there,” explains the Vries.

Curves 11, 12, 13 and 14

After a 90-degree right (turn 11), the last part of the route is significantly faster. “We find a chicane there, followed by a very fast left-hand bend that leads back to the start / finish straight,” says de Vries, describing turns 12/13 and finally turn 14.

“Both the chicane and the last corner are crucial in order to finish the lap properly. A good exit from the chicane helps to get through turn 14 as quickly as possible,” said the Mercedes driver.

The sixth race of the “Race at Home Challenge” will be broadcast on Saturday, May 30th, among other things Motorsport.tv as well as on the Formula E social media platforms (YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, Twitch). As usual, it starts at 4:30 p.m. CEST.
