Antonio Felix da Costa (DS Techeetah), who started in the lead, led from start to finish and won the second Formula Electric race of the New York ePrix on Sunday, ahead of Stoffel Vandoorne (Mercedes EQ) and Mitch Evans (Jaguar). The Portuguese, crowned champion in 2020, started from pole position after a heavy penalty imposed on Nick Cassidy (Envision), winner of Race 1 on Saturday, but whose team then did something forbidden on his batteries.
The driver from the Franco-Chinese team got off to an excellent start, then he rode a perfect race by managing the energy of his batteries as well as possible, and switching to “attack mode” with a temporary increase in power, to bring DS Techeetah its first victory of the season. The bargain of the day is for Vandoorne, the Belgian taking the lead in the World Championship, with 155 points, four rounds from the end of the season, two of which will take place in London in 15 days and two in Seoul, in South Korea, in mid-August.

Cursed weekend for Vergne
In the world championship standings, the Swiss Edoardo Mortara (Venturi), previous leader, who arrived 5th on Saturday then penalized and demoted to 9th place, lost valuable points. Starting at the back of the grid on Sunday, following a mechanical problem, he managed to climb up to 10th place and took the point for the fastest lap in the race.

Frenchman Jean-Eric Vergne, double FE champion and Da Costa’s teammate at DS Techeetah, had a complicated weekend: the victim of an accident on the first lap on Saturday and another on the last lap on Sunday, he lost ground in the title race, passed in the standings by Evans. This temporary circuit was again traced in the docks of Brooklyn facing the skyscrapers of Manhattan.
