Formula 2 Updates and Results in the Netherlands

today, 11:08 | by Mark Hanselman

In addition to Formula 1, Formula 2 will also be in action during the Grand Prix weekend in the Netherlands. The Formula 2 drivers are finishing their eleventh race weekend of the 2023 season in Zandvoort, while Formula 3 is missing due to a lack of space on the tight circuit. F1Maximaal.nl will keep you informed in this topic of all updates and results of Formula 2 in the Netherlands.

F2: Novalak triumphs after messy main race at Circuit Zandvoort

After a messy Formula 2 race, it’s Clément Novalak who takes the win, with Zane Maloney in second and Jak Crawford in third. Richard Verschoor, who started fourteenth, finished just behind in P4. The race started behind the safety car due to the wet track conditions, but the chaos only started after the start. Frederik Vesti, the number two in the championship, started from third position but already spun in the first corner after the start. In the same corner it was Juan Manuel Correa who knocked Oliver Bearman off the track, which eventually caused a safety car. Jack Doohan also lost control of his car before the actual start of the race.

Théo Pourchaire’s weekend also ended dramatically. The Frenchman, also the leader in the championship, parked his car in the gravel trap, resulting in a retirement. Things also went completely wrong for Vesti under the safety car. After a pit stop, both rear tires fly off, causing the Dane to come to a standstill on the track. After the safety car, there was another short incident between Bearman and Victor Martins, as a result of which Bearman eventually also retired and Martins was awarded a ten-second time penalty. After a while the race turned into a timed session, and in the second half of the race the chaos seemed to have subsided.

F2: Lucky accident for Pourchaire: race cancelled

Championship leader Théo Pourchaire had a disappointing result yesterday with a tenth place in qualifying. The Frenchman was therefore allowed to start from pole position today, but could not enjoy it for long: Pourchaire had technical problems and was initially unable to start. Eventually he started from the pit lane and joined the back. However, the wet race was soon halted due to a heavy crash between Jak Crawford and both Campos drivers, with Ralph Boschung finishing on top of teammate Kush Maini.

Later another attempt was made, but then it started to rain even harder, so it was decided not to restart the race. Since not two laps were completed without a safety car, no points are awarded, so Pourchaire’s technical problems ultimately cost him no points.

F2: Crawford takes pole position in red flag fest

Red Bull junior talent Jak Crawford has taken the first starting spot for Sunday’s Formula 2 main race. The only 18-year-old American set the fastest time in Zandvoort early in qualifying, after which the remainder of qualifying was marked by three red flags, caused by Jehan Daruvala, Juan Manuel Correa and Clément Novalak, respectively. Crawford will be joined on the front row on Sunday by Dennis Hauger, another Red Bull junior talent, who managed to improve Crawford’s time, but had his time annulled as the red flag was waved just before he crossed the finish line. start-finish raced.

Several top drivers suffered from the fact that the times could not be improved in the final minutes. Championship leader Théo Pourchaire got stuck in P10, although the Frenchman is lucky to have a first starting place in tomorrow’s sprint race. Title competitor Frederik Vesti limited the damage with a third place, while Richard Verschoor turned out to be fourteenth in his home race. Ayumu Iwasa, the number three in the championship, will also not be satisfied with a twelfth place.
