New engine regulations will apply in Formula 1 in 2026. A lot will change and Red Bull Racing is concerned. The Austrian racing team is asking for a rule change, but FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem should not be reminded of this. He states that this would be unfair.
Red Bull is concerned about the distribution of power generation. Half is then generated by a combustion engine while the other half comes from an electrical part. Red Bull has already carried out a number of simulations and according to them, something happens that they do not like very much. The drivers might then have to downshift on straights to recharge the battery.
Be brave
FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem does not want to think about changing the rules. According to Ben Sulayem, this is unfair, he said in conversation with the international press: “We have to take a step, we have to be brave. We have to move forward. It is normal that there is resistance, but now Audi is also there. Technology develops every day, so small adjustments are always possible.”
Unfair
According to Ben Sulayem, it is possible to adjust a few small things, for example, to the weight or the materials. He dismisses Red Bull’s requests: “We ensure that Audi will not drop out. We have invested a lot of time in bringing them to the sport and in stimulating Porsche’s interest. No, this will work.” certainly won’t happen. It would be unfair to do something and then change it again.”
