‘Formula 1 will remain with Viaplay until 2029’

The broadcasting rights for Formula 1 have been redetermined. Several companies participated, including Viaplay and Ziggo. Despite the fact that Ziggo made a higher bid, Formula 1 still opted for Viaplay. In recent years, Viaplay has proven to be a good partner for Formula 1 and, despite the lower offer, they want to continue with this for the next five years, until 2029.

We may have to wait a little longer, because Viaplay and Ziggo have not yet officially responded. The NOS reports the news based on insiders. Viaplay would have to pay up to 45 million euros per year to broadcast Formula 1. In recent years, 30 million euros was still enough. Despite the financial problems at the Scandinavian streaming service, firing a lot of employees, divesting countries where it is active and cutting back on its own productions, the company has apparently found a way to acquire the rights to Formula 1. In addition Formula 1, Viaplay also has the rights to German and English football and you can also follow PDC Darts.

Bitter pill for Ziggo

It is undoubtedly a bitter pill for Ziggo, because they wanted to use Olav Mol and Jack Plooij again to report on all the racing violence in the world. That is no longer possible.
