Dutch Red Bull driver Max Verstappen becomes the world champion with the most victories in a single season in Formula 1.
Dutch Red Bull driver Max Verstappen became the most successful Formula 1 driver in the world in just one season, winning his 14th in the Mexican Grand Prix, the 20th round of the championship.
The two-time world champion, who started from pole position for the 19th time in his career, broke his partnership with Germans Michael Schumacher (13 out of 18 races with Ferrari in 2004) and Sebastian Vettel (13 out of 19 with Red Bull in particular in 2013).
It is Verstappen’s fourth victory in Mexico after 2017, 2018, 2021 and the 34th in his career.
The Dutchman has 416 points at the top of the drivers’ standings, ahead of Mexican teammate Sergio Perez (280) and Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc from Monaco (275).
Verstappen led the race with 15.186 seconds on British Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton, the seven-time world champion, and 18.097 seconds on his teammate Perez.
