Formula 1 Hungary starts today at 3 p.m

The last Formula 1 Grand Prix before the big summer break in Hungary in 2022 starts today at 3 p.m. at the Hungaroring. The F1 live ticker from Budapest starts at 2:30 p.m. here in Speed-Magazine.de – who will win today? With Mercedes F1 driver George Russell on pole on the grid and both Ferrari Formula 1 drivers on P2 (Carlos Sainz) and P3 (Charles Leclerc), things will be exciting right from the start! Lando Norris on grid position 4 and both ALPINE on P5 (Esteban Ocon) and P6 (Fernando Alonso) will certainly block the world champions Lewis Hamilton (P7) and Max Verstappen (P10) for a few laps before the race to catch up can begin. This starting grid today at the Hungaroring is really tough! So don’t miss it – switch on the Formula 1 live ticker from 2:30 p.m. here in Speed-Magazine.de!

The interesting thing about this starting line-up today are the lap times driven in qualifying at the Hungaroring yesterday: Mercedes George Russell, Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc in the Ferrari, and Lando Norris in the McLaren were on the road with times of 1:17. Whereas the rest from place 5 to place 13 were already setting lap times of 1:18: Esteban Ocon and Fernando Alonso in the Alpine, Lewis Hamilton in the Mercedes, Valtteri Bottas and Guanyu Zhou in the Alfa Romeo, Daniel Ricciardo in the McLaren, Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez in the car Red Bull, and also Kevin Magnussen in the HAAS, just managed a lap time of 1:18.

From place 14 there are already times of 1:19 up to place 20, Lance Stroll and Sebastian Vettel in the Aston Martin, Mick Schumacher HAAS, the two Alpha Tauri Yuki Tsunoda and Pierre Galy and the two Williams with Alexander Albon and Nicholas Latifi. Yesterday, Latifi surprised the Formula 1 world with 1st place in the result of the third free practice session. Even Williams F1 team boss Capito laughed…

Speaking of yesterday at the Hungaroring: Sebastian Vettel has now officially announced his decision to finally turn his back on Formula 1. The Aston Martin F1 driver will finish this 2022 F1 season and then “devote himself to his family”. This move by Seb came as no great surprise to the Formula 1 world as it has become very clear of late where Vettel’s priorities are now. All the best and have fun with the family and the kids, dear Seb!

Today Alpha Tauri becomes an F1 pilot Pierre Gasly starting from the pit lane at the Hungaroring have to because the engine was replaced on the car.

Mercedes has the not unjustified hope that today, as a result of the Hungarian GP, a Mercedes will finally win: George Russell drives from pole, and Toto Wolff hopes that he will finish right there again… It is for the young Mercedes driver the best chance so far in this 2022 Formula 1 season, especially since on Friday at the Hungaroring the world was completely the other way around for Russell: “That was the worst Friday of the entire season” (said Russell).

Ferrari of course has super good chances with 2nd and 3rd place on the starting grid today. Carlos Sainz was pretty sure in yesterday’s qualifying that he had reached pole, when Mercedes followed up with Russell. So Sainz also has the bite and the great chance to get a win from P2 today in the Hungarian GP.

Red Bull is disappointed – by the technical problems the boys are struggling with. Not a good qualification, Max Verstappen lost power on his fast lap and actually had to settle for last place in the third qualifying section. It’s difficult to overtake at the Hungaroring, so tenth on the grid is certainly not the best starting position for reigning Formula 1 World Champion Verstappen. But difficult doesn’t mean it’s impossible – so we’ll see great overtakes here too, for sure!

How will be the weather? Well, in Budapest the sun sometimes shines, sometimes it rains – so it’s mixed. Ferrari and McLaren would like dry conditions as the heat appears to have increased competitiveness. However, on Saturday there were some heavy thunderstorms over the Hungaroring, and for today the track is therefore expected to be cooler overall.
