Formula 1 has embraced Zandvoort again: ‘We will come back here often’

After 36 years, Niki Lauda has received a successor in Max Verstappen, the racing hero who breathed new life into Dutch motorsport.

Formula 1 is back in Zandvoort thanks to the Max factor. And how? Ask McLaren driver Lando Norris if there’s anything he didn’t like this weekend and his eyes are starting to sparkle. He smiles scornfully and answers succinctly: no. Then he cycles on.

‘It just got better’

Sebastian Vettel, also on the bike: “I rode here 15 years ago in Formula 3. It was great then. I was afraid they would screw up the track with the renovation, but it has only gotten better. Especially the Hugenholtzbocht is a high flyer.”

Norris and Vettel cycle up and down between hospitality and motorhome all weekend. In other words: between the street with all the temporary living rooms of the teams and the paddock, where their cars are parked, the mechanics tinker and the drivers turn onto the track.
