Formula 1 | Great Britain, FP2: Stroll in the lead, Albon 2nd and in the wall

The scorching sun bathing the Silverstone circuit greatly increased the temperature between the two sessions and it was in very hot conditions that the second free practice was launched.

Antonio Giovinazzi received a warning after free practice this afternoon, after exiting the track as a result of which he drove too fast and without paying attention to the debris he was returning, causing a red flag.

Immobilized this morning after mechanical problems, Sebastian Vettel had a difficult session, with few laps and a change of pedals after his brake seemed to go too deep.

On the other Ferrari, Charles Leclerc spun around but posted a fourth time that was more reassuring than his teammate’s 18th place, admittedly largely slowed down by his worries and low mileage.

Lance Stroll set the fastest time of the session, the Canadian setting a good time in the middle of the session after putting on soft tires, and before plunging back into long stints in preparation for Sunday’s race.

Alex Albon posted a very convincing second fastest time, but the Thai sent his Red Bull to the rail after losing the rear to Stowe at high speed. Unscathed, he lost nearly half a session and the Red Bull mechanics will be off for a reassembly of the RB16.

Valtteri Bottas signed the third fastest time in the session ahead of Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton. Carlos Sainz is sixth ahead of Nico Hülkenberg, convincing by replacing Sergio Pérez, who finished six tenths behind Stroll.

Pierre Gasly, Daniel Ricciardo and Kimi Räikkönen complete the top 10 ahead of Lando Norris and Esteban Ocon. Max Verstappen is only 14th and was particularly scared with Romain Grosjean in the sequence of Maggotts and Becketts. The Frenchman also finished 16th, two places ahead of Vettel and three in front of his teammate.
