The cancellation of the first three Formula 1 races of the year plunged the motorsport “premier class” into the chaos of appointments. The engines could only start to roar again in June. An emergency plan is being drawn up.
A cancellation was only a matter of time, but was delayed for a long time. Negotiations had been going on behind the scenes for a long time. It was about love money.
The cancellations of the Bahrain races (March 22) and the premiere of Vietnam (April 5) followed much faster. The Chinese Grand Prix (April 19) had been canceled weeks ago.
Now the motorsport “premier class” is working flat out on an emergency plan. In any case, it is already clear that the first European races in Zandvoort (May 3) and Barcelona (May 10) can hardly be driven. In a broadcast, the FIA itself spoke of a season opener at the end of May.
That would be the Monaco Grand Prix classic on May 24th. But the race in the principality on the Cote d? Azur also wobbles. Many expect to start in Azerbaijan on June 7th.
Then seven of the 22 races would be postponed. The emergency plan would then be to cancel the four-week summer break between the races in Hungary and Belgium. Zandvoort and Barcelona would find a place there, since they are permanent race tracks. Monaco seems lost if it cannot be driven on May 24th.
And towards the end of the season, which runs until November 29th, there would still be some air left to push in overseas races. Australia and the new circuit in Vietnam, however, are not permanent race tracks. There is already talk of a maximum of 18 races.
