(Motorsport-Total.com) – Formula 1 starts from May 6th to 8th, 2022 for the first time on the new street circuit in Miami. Since there was no opportunity to try out the course in reality, the drivers have already done a few laps on the new track in the teams’ simulators. So far, the new course in Florida has been well received by the pilots.

A total of four drivers have tried the Miami circuit in the virtual world so far, three of them sat in the Red Bull simulator in Milton Keynes. “I tried it and I have to say that it looks great,” says AlphaTauri driver Pierre Gasly. “I like the layout. There are many speed limits, the track is demanding and there are atypical, very long corners and also very long straights.”
According to Gasly, fans can expect “good American entertainment” in Florida “all weekend.” The Frenchman is “very excited” about the race, also because the “venue is so unique”. “I’m really looking forward to this weekend,” said Gasly after his test laps in the Red Bull simulator.
Narrow last sector
Red Bull driver Sergio Perez emphasizes the narrowness of the track at the end of a lap. In the last sector there are the very slow corners 11-16, which lead onto the back straight. The Mexican also speaks of “a good route”. “It’s not easy to get this curvy area right. It can also be difficult with the view,” said the Formula 1 veteran’s analysis.

Despite the narrow sector, Perez expects “good racing” on the long straights of the circuit. However, the asphalt has to play well for this. “When we come to new routes, we always find some surprises,” said the Mexican. AlphaTauri pilot Yuki Tsunoda also agrees, who also emphasizes the difficult last sector.
“The track is something completely different, especially in the third sector with the many tight corners,” explains the Japanese. “If there’s a safety car, I expect a traffic jam there because it’s so narrow. Even on a fast lap, those corners are very slow.” Tsunoda is hoping that the overtaking opportunities that are definitely there promise an exciting race.
Bottas expects many overtaking maneuvers
Alfa Romeo driver Valtteri Bottas has already taken a seat in the simulator in Hinwil to at least try out the route in the virtual world. His conclusion is consistently positive. “It’s a good track for overtaking,” the Finn clarifies. The track is planned very positively and we should see good racing. There are long straights and some good overtaking opportunities.”
The former Mercedes driver hopes that his impressions from the simulator will be confirmed in reality and that Formula 1 will offer fans in Miami plenty of action. “It all looks very good on paper,” says Bottas. “I think we’re going to see a great event.”
The circuit goes around the Miami Dolphins’ Hard Rock Stadium and the tennis arena, home of the Miami Open. The circuit in the north of the most famous city in the “Sunshine State” is 5.410 kilometers long and has 19 corners. The distance is 57 laps or around 308 kilometers.
