The German carmaker Audi will have its official team in Formula 1 from 2026. It will come from the current Sauber team, which this season operates under the name of Alfa Romeo. The DPA agency informed him.
Audi described this partnership as another milestone on their journey to F1. It involves acquiring a stake in Sauber, which has nearly three decades of experience in the sport. He competed for the first time under his own name and since 2018 as an Alfa Romeo team. Audi said it will supply the powertrain for the car, while Sauber will develop and build the single-seaters at the Hinwil plant. Sauber will also be responsible for the planning and execution of the race.
“We are delighted to have acquired such an experienced and competent partner for our ambitious Formula 1 project”, Oliver Hoffmann, a member of Audi’s technical development board, said in a statement.
