The former world number ones Venus Williams and Caroline Wozniacki are thanks to wildcards at the tennis US Open, which starts in a week on Monday.
The 43-year-old American Williams missed most of the current season injured and is currently classified outside the top 500, just like Wozniacki.
Denmark’s Wozniacki, who returned to the tour this month, played her first two WTA games in three and a half years in Montreal last week.
