TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Former Director of Infectious Diseases WHO Southeast Asia, Tjandra Yoga Aditama, said there are three possible places of care for confirmed patients varian Omicron.
“If the number of patients continues to increase, then it is better to have three possible treatments” Covid-19 patient mainly caused by the Omicron variant,” said Tjandra in his statement, Tuesday, January 11, 2022.
The first place is home to patients who are asymptomatic or asymptomatic and have no risk factors, such as elderly and comorbid. Tjandra said there were 5 criteria for the patient to be treated at home.
The criteria include the availability of healthy and safe rooms. Then the family controls the handling of patients, providing food, hygiene, and others, and needs moral support and a positive attitude to patients.
Asymptomatic patients should be under the supervision of a doctor, either a local health center or clinic or by telemedicine. Patients also need to monitor their health condition, namely the presence or absence of complaints of fever, cough, shortness of breath, headache, body aches, diarrhea or worsening of complaints. Also monitor with tools, such as thermometer and oximetry.
The daily needs of the patient must also be maintained, both eating and drinking, adequate rest, clothing and adequate bedding, safety must also be guaranteed. “A healthy lifestyle must be maintained, including exercise, maintaining cleanliness and managing possible stress well,” said Tjandra.
The second place is a centralized isolation facility, such as a guest house or dormitory for patients with mild symptoms and elderly and comorbid OTG. The Director of the Postgraduate Program at YARSI University said that there are 3 criteria that must be met, namely the room and environment must be healthy and safe from continuous transmission, psychological support so that patients are calm in facing the treatment process, and complete health workers are provided.
The third place is the hospital treating patients with moderate and severe symptoms. Also patients with risk factors who have a tendency to be moderate or severe.
According to Tjandra, there are 5 things that must be prepared by the hospital, namely inpatient rooms and beds, Covid-19 drugs and other supporting drugs, oxygen and ventilators, personal protective equipment and an environmental health system that ensures prevention of transmission. Also guarantee the availability of sufficient number of human resources, skilled, and work with reasonable working hours.
Tjandra said that all these efforts must be supported by the availability of data through good surveillance, the availability of a fast and accurate referral system, and good risk communication so that the public gets accurate, clear, and transparent information.
