Philippe Troussier gave advice to his former team, Vietnam. He hopes The Golden Star Warriors not be complacent in ASEAN level success.
Troussier was expelled from his post as Vietnam coach at the end of March. The French tactician was laid off after his team’s humiliating defeat to Indonesia Of 2026 World Cup Qualification.
In the match at My Dinh Stadium, Vietnam was beaten 0-3 by Indonesia. It was Vietnam’s first defeat at home against Garuda in 20 years.

Troussier regrets the decision of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) to fire him. He admitted that he had a long-term plan to make Vietnam able to compete at world level.
“Maybe I failed. I regret not having enough time to implement my plan. I really want to build long-term goals for Vietnamese football,” said Troussier, as reported by VN Express.
“My previous success came from my passion, passion, hard work. The road to success is not a straight line.”
Troussier also advised Vietnam not to be complacent in becoming champion at the ASEAN level. The 70-year-old coach believes that the AFF Cup or SEA Games are not benchmarks, because opponents do not field their best players there.
“Is it possible that Vietnam will appear again in Southeast Asia? We may be successful in the AFF Cup or SEA Games, but then Thailand or other opponents will not use the strongest troops,” said Troussier.
“Their players who are abroad don’t appear there because tournaments like that don’t belong to FIFA. Is it fun to have champions like that?” he explained.
