Caracas, Jul 30 (EFE).- A group of people identified as «hooded officials» The former opposition deputy of Voluntad Popular was arrested on Tuesday Freddy Superlano and two of his collaborators, According to the Vente Venezuela (VV) party through X, who shared a video in which he is seen being taken away in a vehicle.
«We alert the international community about this new wave of arrests against political leaders in Venezuela»said VV on the social network, in whose video you can hear boos and shouts of people rejecting the arrest of the anti-Chavez activist and his companions.
The information was later confirmed by the political party to which the detainee belongs, which claims that its political coordinator was “kidnapped” and alerts the international community about “the repressive escalation of the dictatorship of (President) Nicolás Maduro against activists of the democratic cause”after the elections in which the National Electoral Council (CNE) declared the president the winner Nicolas Maduroa widely questioned result.
“We peacefully demand the publication of the election results that overwhelmingly declare our president-elect, Edmundo González Urrutia, the winner,” added Voluntad Popular – a party that is part of the Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD) – in the same publication on X.
For his part, Leopoldo López, exiled in Spain, said last night that he spoke with Superlano, who told him that “there is no fear, down with the dictatorship, long live freedom.”
Opponent
Superlano was a deputy of the National Assembly (AN) that won the legislative elections of 2015whose term extended from 2016, when Parliament was installed, until 2021.
The opposition candidate was a candidate in the 2021 regional elections for the state of Barinas – birthplace of Hugo Chávez – which he won by a narrow margin, a result that was annulled on the grounds that the anti-Chavez candidate was disqualified, a version that raised doubts, since Superlano had been able to register with the National Electoral Council (CNE) to compete in the elections.
The elections were repeated by order of the competent authorities, and the opposition won again, this time with the candidate Sergio Garrido, current governor of the State, traditionally a Chavista.
