With a view to the storming of the Capitol in January 2021, he accused Trump of endangering him and his family in a speech in Des Moines, Iowa. The American people deserve to know that on that fateful day, Trump asked him too to choose between himself and the Constitution. But anyone who puts themselves above the Constitution, or asks anyone else to do so, should never become President of the United States. Pence had previously announced his candidacy for the Republican presidential nomination. Trump will also compete again after his defeat in 2020 and is currently the favorite.

Pence served as his deputy in the White House from 2017 to 2021. The governor of North Dakota, Burgum, and the ex-governor of New Jersey, Christie, had recently declared their application.

This message was broadcast on Deutschlandfunk on June 7th, 2023.
