Pence had previously announced his candidacy for the Republican presidential nomination. Trump will also compete again after his defeat in 2020 and is currently the favorite.
Pence served as his deputy in the White House from 2017 to 2021. The governor of North Dakota, Burgum, and the ex-governor of New Jersey, Christie, had recently declared their application.
