Details: Kissinger died at his home in Connecticut, according to Kissinger Associates.
Henry Kissinger, the controversial Nobel Peace Prize winner and diplomatic powerhouse whose service under two presidents left a mark on U.S. foreign policy, died Wednesday at age 100, his geopolitical consulting firm, Kissinger Associates Inc., said.
Since his centenary, Kissinger has been active, attending White House meetings, publishing a book on leadership style, and testifying before a Senate committee about the nuclear threat from North Korea.
In July 2023, he made a surprise visit to Beijing to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Background:
In 2008, Kissinger argued against Ukraine’s admission to NATO and in favor of keeping Ukraine in the sphere “which Russians consider to be their own space of identity.” In 2015 criticized sanctions against Russia, justified the occupation of Crimea. In May 2022, speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Kissinger said that Ukraine should give up part of its territory to Russia to end the war. Then Zelensky responded to the ex-Secretary of State of the United States: “It seems that Mr. Kissinger’s calendar is not 2022, but 1938, and he thought that he was speaking to the audience not in Davos, but in what was then Munich.” In July 2022, Kissinger already called during possible future negotiations with Moscow not to cede the Ukrainian territories seized during the Russian invasion, and in January 2023 he supported Ukraine’s accession to NATO. During his visit to the United States, President Vladimir Zelensky met with Kissinger, who had previously been against Ukraine’s membership in NATO, and now supports our state’s membership in the Alliance.
