Former US President George W. Bush sent a letter to the participants of the international conference “Victory over Putinism”, which is being held for the seventh time in Tbilisi. The politician’s address was read by former US Assistant Secretary of State David Kramer.
Bush expresses doubts about the Georgian government’s “commitment to democratic values.” And the attitude of the Georgian authorities towards the ex-president Mikhail Saakashvili breaks Bush’s heart. Bush is also concerned about Russian influence in Georgia.
“While the meeting is taking place in Tbilisi, the attention of the whole world is still riveted on Ukraine. The outcome of this war has infinite implications for freedom and democracy throughout the world, including Georgia. Ukraine’s victory shows that democratic forces can gain an advantage. The victory of Ukraine will emphasize the strength of the people who strive to live in freedom. And a Ukrainian victory will also pave the way for the possibility that Russia will end its occupation of 20% of your country,” the American ex-president believes.
According to him, Georgia has friends in the United States, he called on everyone to rally to “defeat the forces that threaten freedom and democracy.”
Regional and international “analysts”, representatives of the European Parliament, the civil sector and business came to Tbilisi to “defeat Putinism”. There is not a single representative of the Georgian Dream party in power at the conference. The ruling team ignores the forum for the second year in a row.
On September 3, the conference participants traditionally visited the village of Odzisi, located on the border of Georgia with South Ossetia. The conference organizers are the Center for Economic Policy Research, the McCain Institute for International Leadership, the George Bush Institute.
