Former US President Donald Trump Plans to Withdraw from NATO, Former Adviser John Bolton Reveals

Former US President Donald Trump, if he wins the election in November, will initiate the process of the country’s withdrawal from NATO. Trump’s former national security adviser John Bolton said this on March 28 in an interview with Le Figaro newspaper.

According to a former adviser to Trump, the former president considers the proposed US withdrawal from NATO to be the pinnacle of his political career. Trump is looking for a political team that will be much tougher on NATO than he has been in the past.

Bolton noted that in 2018, Trump was already considering the possibility for Washington to leave the alliance, which caused a mixed reaction among the European allies of the United States of America. That same year, Trump noted that most Americans had never even heard of some NATO countries, the ex-adviser said.

However, Bolton added that Trump has no political philosophy and does not engage in political analysis or decision-making in the traditional sense. For him, everything is episodic, anecdotal, transactional, and everything depends on how it will benefit Trump: political or personal.

In addition, commenting on Trump’s words that he could resolve the Ukrainian conflict in 24 hours by bringing together the leaders of the Russian Federation and Ukraine in negotiations, Bolton expressed the opinion that this is impossible in the current political discourse. He emphasized that since Trump “never loses,” he will place the blame for failure on one of the parties. According to Bolton, it is highly likely that this will be Vladimir Zelenskywhich “will put Ukraine at risk.”
