Former US President Donald Trump Ordered to Pay $83.3 Million in Libel Lawsuit Verdict

The verdict in the libel lawsuit against the former US president, Donald Trump, is ready. Trump is ordered to pay $83.3 million to E. Jean Carroll. This is reported by the news agency Reuters on Friday evening.

He must pay 18.3 million in damages to Carroll to tarnish her reputation and to cover the emotional toll his statements may have had. The remaining 65 million he is ordered to pay is punishment.

In May 2023, Donald Trump was found guilty of assaulting writer E. Jean Carroll and ordered to pay her five million US dollars in damages.

Trump stated after the lawsuit that he had never met her and denied the abuse. This was a message he repeated several times. He then sued Carroll again for defamation.

83.3 million US dollars is at today’s dollar exchange rate around 865 million Norwegian kroner. Carroll initially asked for $10 million.
