Former US President Donald Trump Found Guilty of Sexual Assault and Defamation, Ordered to Pay $5 Million in Compensation

The former US president has been declared responsible for sexual assault for facts dating back to 1996 on a former journalist.

Donald Trump was found guilty on Tuesday of sexual assault by a civil court in New York. He will have to pay 5 million dollars in compensation for sexual assault and defamation.

Deliberations by the nine-member jury began after Judge Lewis Kaplan gave the panel final instructions and a verdict form in U.S. District Court in Manhattan.

A “shame” according to Trump

“This verdict is a disgrace, denounced Donald Trump in the process. I have absolutely no idea who this woman is.”

His campaign team said in a statement that he intended to appeal the decision.

The jury had to decide whether the plaintiff, former Elle magazine columnist E. Jean Carroll, demonstrated that Donald Trump raped, sexually assaulted, or physically touched her without her consent in a dressing room of a New York department store, Bergdorf Goodman, in the spring of 1996.

His plaintiff, E. Jean Carroll, 79, was very moved and hugged several of his lawyers and his entourage who had tears in their eyes.

She left, smiling, under her sunglasses, the Manhattan courthouse without making a statement and accompanied by her faithful lawyer Roberta Kaplan.

The civil trial lasted two weeks and Donald Trump did not come to testify in Manhattan federal court, presided over by Judge Lewis Kaplan.

The former tenant of the White House (2017-2021), who intends to win it back in 2024, has always denied the facts.
