This is reported by several American media, including the news agency AP.

The judge concluded that the former president and his company defrauded banks and insurance companies by inflating the company’s values. This, in turn, should have contributed to them receiving more favorable conditions for loans and insurance.

The decision will ease the way for Attorney General Letitia James, who has accused Trump of overstating his holdings by as much as $2.2 billion, writes the New York Times.

That trial is scheduled to begin Monday.

She claims that Donald Trump provided false information and boasted of up to $2.2 billion in wealth.

James wrote to the New York court that evidence in the civil lawsuit she is bringing against Trump and three of his children shows a pattern of “repeated and persistent” lies by Trump and the family company from 2011 to 2021.

Trump has previously referred to the entire investigation as a “vindictive fishing operation”. He has also referred to the allegations as “groundless”.

In a statement on his own social medium, Truth Social, the former president characterizes the lawsuit as “another witch hunt,” which he believes is motivated by James’ desire for re-election.
