Former US President Donald Trump Focused on Returning to the White House Despite Speaker of the House Rumors

Former US President Donald Trump confirmed that he is focused only on one thing, which is returning to the White House, at a time when some Republicans are calling for Trump to move to the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives, which became vacant after the ouster of Kevin McCarthy in a historic vote.

“A lot of people have approached me about being Speaker of the House,” Trump said while in Manhattan court for the third day of his civil fraud trial. “All I can say is that we are going to do whatever is best for the country and the Republican Party.”

Politico magazine indicated that Trump, his adult children, and his companies are being prosecuted with penalties amounting to $250 million due to what New York authorities describe as ongoing commercial fraud. Despite the trial, Trump found time to answer journalists’ questions about the possibility of his candidacy for the position of Speaker of Representatives.

He added: “My focus is entirely on the presidency. If I can help them through this process, I will. We have some great people in the Republican Party who can do a great job as Speaker of the House. But my place is in the White House.”

At least three House Republicans have publicly called for Trump to be appointed the new speaker of the House after Kevin McCarthy was fired on Tuesday. McCarthy said he has no intention of running for Speaker of the House again, setting up a race to replace him in which Reps. Steve Scalise and Jim Jordan have already launched their bids.

Trump, whose first venture into politics was running for president, has no grounding in the legislative process and has never indicated a desire to become president. In its history, the House has never had a speaker who was not a member of Congress — although that is not technically a constitutional requirement.

Representative Troy Neals was the first to suggest this on Tuesday on X, and Representative Greg Steube repeated the call in a post on It is the White House.
